Each nation have its own ornamental style. The words "ornament" and "ornek" are synonyms (pattern in Kazakh is oy ornek).
The art of ornaments and patterns of the Kazakhs is the one of the most ancient among other national arts.
Ornament appeared on the territory of Kazakhstan in the Neolithic era. Ornament is a kind of artistic text. It contains the ideas of ancient peoples about the surrounding reality and the structure of the world. Ancient people believed that painted symbols served as amulets and drew what, in their opinion, could help them save them in everyday life.
Kazakh pattern can be easily distinguished from the ornaments of other ethnic groups by the characteristic ornament of sheep and ram horns.
Kazakh ornaments contain meanings and signs that come from the depths of centuries. Some of them have been lost, while others, passed down from generation to generation by folk craftsmen and craftswomen, have reached us in their original form. Among the many ornaments, the most common element is - koshkar muyiz, symbolizing vitality, grace, wealth and well-being. This ornament is used in creativity, in national costumes, jewelry and home decoration.
